SMS Messages System for Location, Control and Help of Small Watercraft in the Canary Islands Coastline

The main objective of SMSPELC is that any boat, both fishing and recreational, can have a support and security system, which facilitates fast and reliable communication with their home ports, rescue and help centers and other boats. The service is based on GPS positioning and a messaging system that encodes different types of alerts, all this connected through a control center.

The successful results, hugely satisfactory, have ended in a smart management system to provide communication between boats and the shore, and the development of a prototype we have called "Onboard Monitoring Device (DIME)", which is manufactured expressly for achieving certain features not available in the market up to now.

Project results have been presented at the Seminar on European Water Port Management Systems. Macaronesian "Green" Ports, Funchal (Madeira) on October 20, 2010 and in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, at the First Conference on Economics and the Sea, FIMAR 2011.
